I am an intern (for 3 years ) and am very poorly paid (this is the rule for interns since we learn a lot and produce some at the beginning) and would love to have a raise. I came up with an idea . Can I suggest my boss to give me an extra amount if I do an outstanding job?

Frances's advice

Of course you can, and should! If you have three years with this company, you are long overdue for a raise. Further proof of the validity of your idea is the fact that your boss must believe you are an asset to keep you for the three years. Go directly to your boss and say something like: "I love this job and the company and I’ve worked for the standard pay of an intern for three years. I want to earn more money and would like to suggest the following idea. I (or we) will come up with some additional performance criteria that would allow you to raise my salary by 10%. If I can perform well with this new and broader scope of responsibilities after one month, you agree to move up my salary. This will allow me to grow and mature and will empower me by integrating my work into the larger goals of the organization. Because I am very motivated, I will be a success and you will be happy!"

We think a smart boss will jump at an offer like this!
